Blinn names 84 student athletes to athletic director’s honor roll for Spring 2017

Blinn College has named 84 student athletes to the Spring 2017 Don Wilhelm Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

To be eligible, student athletes must post a 3.0 or better grade point average (GPA) and pass a minimum of 12 credit hours of college level courses. Out of 261 student athletes, 32 percent made the honor roll.

Eight student athletes achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA: volleyball players MeKayla Gurley (Sweeny), Danusia Sipa Borgeaud (Canberra, Australia) and Kayla Valigura (Hallettsville); women's basketball player Jasline Chandler (Cleburne); baseball player Cody Moos (Castroville); Blinn Treasure Darian Phinney (North Richland Hills), trainer Chandler Craig (Round Rock) and football player Eugene Shorter (Columbus).

"It is impressive to see these student athletes accomplish so much in the classroom," said Scott Schumacher, athletic director.

Blinn baseball led the way with 26 players named to the honor roll, and volleyball had the highest GPA of any team at 3.0.

The honor roll is named after former Blinn athletic director Don Wilhelm, an NJCAA Hall of Famer who served the College for 10 years.
