The Blinn College men's and women's basketball teams will compete in the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament March 3-7 at the Centenary College Gold Dome in Shreveport, La.
The No. 24 women's basketball team enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed after concluding the regular season with a 24-6 record and 13-5 conference record. The men's basketball team enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed after finishing the season with a 21-9 overall record and 11-8 conference record.
The women's team will take the court first as the Buccaneers take on the No. 7 seed, Paris Junior College, at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4.
"I am so excited for this special group to experience the Region XIV Tournament," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. "We are playing our best basketball of the season when it comes to team defense, rebounding, turnovers, making the extra pass, and moving without the ball. If we make shots we can beat anyone on a given night."
The men's team will get a bye in the first round and compete against the winner of Game 2 between No. 5 seed Bossier Parish Community College and No. 12 seed Coastal Bend College at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 5.
"We have won five won games in a row, have been playing really well, and our guys are really understanding what is expected of them and how to achieve that," said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach. "Getting a bye is a big thing both physically and mentally, and I expect our guys to play very good at the tournament. They are great people and very good players, so we are excited."
Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children over 5 and students with a college ID, $30 for a tournament pass, and free for children 5 and under.
