When the Texas/New Mexico Junior College All-Stars take the field Friday and Saturday, three Blinn College baseball players will be among them.
Nolan Brown, Cullen Gassaway and Robert Dickey were selected to play in the Texas/New Mexico All-Star Game at LaGrave Field in Fort Worth. They'll play for the Region XIV South all-stars, joining other players from the conference as they battle other all-stars from Texas and New Mexico.
"I think they're all very well-deserving and it's a great accomplishment for them," Blinn baseball coach Harvey McIntyre said. "It's a good time for these guys to shine in front of some four-year schools and pro scouts. The all-star game is heavily recruited."
The trio led the Buccaneers to a 31-26 record and a Region XIV Conference tournament berth last season.
Gassaway was a dominant force offensively for the Bucs, batting .312 for the Bucs with 39 hits with 27 runs scored in his freshman campaign. Brown, a freshman outfielder, had a .404 slugging percentage while batting .298 with 36 hits, 34 runs scored and 28 RBI.
Dickey threw 73 innings for the Bucs in 13 games – second in innings only to Karl Malecek. He averaged nearly eight strikeouts a game and carried a 3.82 earned run average.
"They've all worked extremely hard to get there," McIntyre said.
