LONGVIEW, Texas – The second-ranked Blinn College softball team capped off the Region XIV Round Robin Sunday with wins over Northeast Texas and Bossier Parish.
Blinn defeated Northeast Texas 8-5 and Bossier Parish 6-4 to finish the tournament with five wins in three days. The Buccaneers are now 14-11 on the season.
Freshman Shannon O'Connor earned the win over Northeast Texas, striking out nine batters while scattering six hits and four walks.
Tiffani McKnight got the Buccaneers on the scoreboard with a solo home run in the first. After Northeast Texas answered with three runs, the Bucs rallied for four in the third inning. Kristina Davila hit an RBI single and Peyton Webb added a two-run double.
Northeast Texas tied the score in the third inning, but Taylor Guidry put Blinn ahead for good with an RBI single in the fifth inning. McKnight's second blast of the game, a two-run shot in the sixth inning, produced the final score.
Sophomore Caitie Carney (3-4) earned the win over Bossier Parish, allowing five hits and four walks while striking out three. O'Connor entered the game in the seventh to earn the save.
The Bucs scored four runs in the first inning as Shelbe Sterling hit a two-run single, Webb was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Guidry hit an RBI single.
Davila's two-run home run in the second inning proved the game winner. Davila and McKnight each went 3-for-4.
The Buccaneers travel to Houston Wednesday for a 4 p.m. Region XIV Conference double-header against San Jacinto.
