WACO, Texas – Blinn College women's basketball struggled early with turnover issues but was able to correct that problem in the second half to earn a come from behind 65-59 victory over Collin County Community College Tuesday afternoon at the McLennan Shootout.
The win over Collin is the fourth straight for Blinn as the Buccaneers improve to 9-5 overall and remain 3-2 in Region XIV play.
The Buccaneers had a balanced scoring attack as Ke'Asia Williams led the way with 15 points and all but one of her points were scored in the fourth quarter while Brenisha Coleman was also in double figures with 12 points while being tasked to defend Collin's best player in the low post.
Offense was hard to come by in the opening quarter as Blinn could only muster six points while turning the ball over too much in the face of Collin's zone defense. Collin led 9-6 after one and outscored the Buccaneers 20-12 in the second quarter to claim a 29-18 lead at the half.
Blinn took much better care of the ball in the second half, starting in the third quarter. The better ball-control helped the Buccaneers take a 20-13 edge in the third quarter to get within 42-38 after three quarters.
Williams put together a big quarter in the fourth, scoring 14 of her 15 points in the final 10 minutes to help Blinn take the lead and maintain that lead for the majority of the quarter. Blinn outscored Collin 27-17 in the fourth to come back and grab the victory.
Blinn will get back into conference play with a home game Saturday, Jan. 7 against Paris Junior College at 2 p.m. Paris is 1-3 through four games in Region XIV play.
