WACO, Texas — Blinn College women's basketball struggled offensively as the Buccaneers fell to Ranger College by the score of 62-31 Wednesday afternoon at the McLennan Community College Shootout.
"I did not have our team ready to play tonight and I take full responsibility," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. "I also give Ranger a lot of credit for their defense and effort."
The Buccaneers fall to 7-7 overall and stay at 1-4 in Region XIV play.
Ranger shut down the Blinn offense early and built a 23-4 lead to open the first quarter. The Buccaneers played a closer game in the second quarter as Ranger only outscored Blinn by five points to put the Rangers on top 39-15 at the half.
In the third quarter, the Rangers hung onto the momentum and scored 19 points to head into the fourth quarter with a 58-27 lead. In the final quarter, the Ranger defense held Blinn to four points to take a 62-31 victory.
Blinn concluded the McLennan Community College Shootout with a 1-1 record and returns to conference play on Saturday, Jan. 6 against Paris Junior College at 2 p.m. for Blinn's fifth straight away game.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
