BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College volleyball knew it would have its hands full with No. 2 Iowa Western Community College and that proved true as the Buccaneers lost in a 3-0 sweep to close the Applebee's Classic inside the P.E. Building Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Blinn falls to 14-16 overall as its Region XIV record stays at 4-2. The Buccaneers closed the tournament with a 1-3 record.
"I feel we made strides all weekend in becoming a better team," said Kalie Mader, Blinn head coach. "We had a balanced effort all weekend."
Blinn started out with a solid first set in scoring 21 points but it was Iowa Western claiming the first 25-21. The second set was the worst for the Buccaneers as they only scored 14 points in a 25-14 Iowa Western set victory that gave it a 2-0 lead in sets.
The Buccaneers put up more fight in the third set but still fell 25-20 as Iowa Western sealed the sweep.
Blinn will look to get back in its winning ways with a home match against Victoria College on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.
