Scott Schumacher is in his 14th year as the Blinn College athletic director.
Schumacher oversaw a historic year of Blinn athletics in 2024-25, as the department captured four national championships.
In total, eight teams and one individual earned trips to national tournaments, including baseball, volleyball, men’s and women's golf, men's and women's cross country, the cheer and dance teams, and one cross country runner at the NJCAA Division I Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The Blinn baseball team reached the NJCAA Division I Baseball World Series for a program-record third consecutive season. The Buccaneer dance team won its 11th and 12th National Dance Association national championships with victories in the Pom Open and Spirit Rally Open finals while the Blinn cheer squad captured the Adanced All Girl Junior College title at the NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship. Blinn cheer also won the All Girl title at the inaugural NJCAA Competitive Cheer Invitational. Blinn volleyball made its fifth consecutive trip to the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship tournament, men's and women's cross country qualified for the NJCAA Division I Men's & Women's Cross Country Championships, sophomore men's cross country runner Eric Lagat qualified for the NJCAA Division I Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the steeple chase event, and the men's and women's golf teams reached the NJCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship and NJCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship. The women's golf team set a program mark with a fifth-place finish at nationals.
In addition, the Blinn volleyball, women’s soccer, men’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s golf, baseball, and softball teams made trips to Region XIV tournaments. Blinn baseball hosted the Region XIV South Regional and and Region XIV Super Regional for a third consecutive year and earned a third-consecutive Region XIV South and Mid-South District championship. The volleyball team hosted and won the Region XIV Tournament. Both the men's and women's golf teams captured their respective Region XIV championships.
Other highlights in 2024-25 included a first-team NJCAA All-American volleyball selection for sophomore right-side hitter Kellen Dorotik, as well as a second-team selection for freshman outside hitter MaKenna Loo. Sophomore men's basketball player Anthony Isaac was also honored nationally with an honorable mention on the All-America list.
A total of 410 student athletes were named to the fall and spring athletic director’s honor roll, with sophomore baseball player Hunter earning the Blinn Atkinson Cup Award winner after maintaining a 3.95 grade point average (GPA) throughout two years at Blinn.
Blinn has captured 53 national championships since 1987, including 25 national championships under Schumacher.
Schumacher also serves as the head men’s basketball coach. In 35 years as a junior college head coach, Schumacher has compiled a career record of 674-393. He ranks ninth in all-time wins among active men’s basketball coaches across 439 NJCAA programs and in February 2023 was inducted into the NJCAA Men's Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. In 2022, Schumacher was inducted into the Kilgore College Hall of Fame, where he was men's basketball coach from 1995-2008. Under his watch at Kilgore, three players and the 1997-98 basketball team were also inducted into the hall of fame. Schumacher is in his 39th year coaching basketball at the collegiate level and 17th year as an NJCAA athletic director.
